Welcoming New Members
Penarth Swimming Club is always keen to welcome new members. We have around 100 members - you'll probably already know someone at the club and we find that new swimmers settle in very quickly.
We're a small, friendly club that focuses on stroke improvement and swimming for fitness and fun. Typically, our members have joined us having followed a course of lessons at the local pool, they love swimming and wish to continue without having to make the jump to the seriousness of competitive swimming clubs (though we'll help and encourage you if this is your goal!).
We swim twice a week, on Monday and Friday evenings. It's not an exact science, but our younger swimmers (generally junior school age) have the choice of either a 7.00pm-7.30pm or 7.30pm-8.00pm swim on a Monday and 7.30pm-8.00pm on a Friday. Our older swimmers (generally secondary school age) swim for an hour, at 8.00pm on Mondays and Fridays.
How to get involved?
Just come down to Cogan Leisure Centre during Club times to see how we run things. If you like what you see, you can have a taster session to see if the Club is right for you - just speak to one of the poolside team and they'll be happy to help.
You can "click here" to see how much it costs to join and download a membership form.
Does your child need to be able to swim already?
Yes, new members do need to have some swimming ability already. We have a small but dedicated group of poolside staff made up of ASA qualified coaches, assistant coaches and parent helpers. As we're relatively few in number, it's very difficult to support all of the swimmers properly if we have to dedicate 1-to-1 teaching time on none/very weak swimmers.
As a guide, new members should be able to comfortably swim a length, and ideally have reached Level 4 of the ASA Learn to Swim Framework.
