Are we a Water Polo Club too?
We have run a fairly active Water Polo section in previous years, to the extent that it obviously forms part of the clubs name. We still run the occasional Water Polo session or an alternative form of it, called Mini-Polo, designed for younger swimmers. These session take place during the senior session, usually on a Friday.
We do not currently offer a standalone Water-Polo membership nor is the club currently competitive in this discipline.
What is Water-Polo?
Water polo is a cross between Basketball and Football played in water by teams of up to 13 players, with 7 team members in the water at any one time.
A football sized ball with a roughened surface is passed between members of the team using one hand only, manoeuvring the ball up the pool until one of the team is in a position to throw the ball past the goal keeper. A team is only allowed to hold possession for 35 seconds at a time before attempting to score. Games are made up of 4 quarters lasting 5 to 7 minutes each.
